Another Juice Feasting Resource

Occasionally I like to bring other Juice fasting and Juice Feasting resources to share. I haven't ordered these CD's myself yet, but they did capture my interest. I thought I would share the link here for other fellow juicers and those considering juicing to check out. They are called:

The Secret Of Juice Feasting.

Keep On Keepin' On...

Last weeks Doctors appointment went rather well. I did have to get steroid injections in my knees though, for me this was a disappointment, but it was a choice between being hobbled in pain or being able to move and function. I was able to figure out what had caused the  flare up in my knee pain. I had to redo my CPR certification for my job. Four hours of class, up an down, on and off the floor did me in!

The knees feel much better again. The Doctor was extremely excited and pleased with my weight loss! When I told him what I was doing, juicing and exercising he said, "Well keep it up, it's working!"

Tonight after work I am going to the gym for another upper body and back workout. Then of course a session in the steam sauna. A new week and time to kick it in gear again!  Until next time, have an awesome week, rev it up, drop the clutch and haul ass!

Bum Knee, Owee...

I have been dealing with knee pain for a couple of years now. This made it hard to work out and at times even walk. Earlier this year I had to have steroid injections in my knee joints. Up until just recently my knees had been doing much better, but last night my left knee pain really flared up. I took the night off from working out just to be safe. I have a Doctors appointment next Thursday morning.

Also last night was Halloween. I have to admit, I gave into temptation and gave into the call of the chocolate... But now this holiday celebration is over, I can get serious again. But, we all know here in the United States this begins the Winter holiday stretch. First Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Christmas and lastly New Years Eve.

So, yes this can be a challenging time to be juice feasting. But even if one isn't totally successful to sticking with a juicing regiment, juicing can at least cut back on your overall day to day calorie consumption while super charging the nutritional impact you are taking in.

This should be a free license to just pig out from October until January, I still need to take my program of juicing, health and fitness serious. So, tomorrow I will get refocused and motivated. A bad day of poor eating choices does not destroy all your hard work. Tomorrow is a new day, start anew and dig right back in. Until next time, work smart, play hard and love life to the fullest!

Back To Work Tomorrow Morning.

Getting ready to make my juice for tomorrow. It is going to be a Mean Green Juice day. I am glad I have juice energized through the day. It is easy and nutritious. No it's not as convenient as a frozen dinner you could pop in the microwave, but that old type of food is what brought me to this point in the first place!

The difference in the nutrition value etc is not even on the same page! Fat, salt laden dead food vs live, vitamin, mineral, enzyme packed live foods. Less calories for the amount of quality nutritional fuel your body is getting out of it.

It also works well with my crazy work schedule at my job. Two morning shifts, followed by two swing shifts. Here is a picture of the ingredients as I am getting ready to make a batch of the Mean Green Juice. The photo is shaky, I took it on my cell phone and the lighting isn't the best in the kitchen.

What Was Old Is New

I have a winter jacket that I have not been able to wear for about three years now. When I came home from work for my lunch break tonight it was 32 degrees. A hoodie just wasn't doing the job...

I grabbed the jacket out of the closet and guess what? It fit with room to spare! Also, I relieved the staff in a different dorm for their dinner break. It is a female dorm. One of the young ladies noticed I had lost allot of weight and said I looked good, that made me feel good and totally made my day! Think about it, a cute blonde young lady in her 20's noticing me was proof that what I am doing is working.

I went to the gym after work again and did an absolute brutal lower body, legs and abs workout, followed by half an hour in the sauna. Life is good, I like the juice!

Woot, it is my Friday !!!

Today is my "Friday" it work! I always look forward to my days off... I didn't go to the gym last night because I didn't get off until 1:00 AM and then had to be back at 8:30 AM to take a 4 hour CPR recertification course. Now I have to be back to work my regular shift this evening. The CPR class was a good workout in and of itself too. I am going to the gym tonight at the end of my shift. It is the dreaded legs and abs night, ugghhh they really kick my butt...

I experimented the last couple of days with my juice. It was still the basic Mean Green Juice but I added a few different ingredients. Yesterday I added green onions from my coworkers garden and a seeded jalapeno pepper. Today it was the same but without the green onions, I didn't seed the jalapeno pepper and I added 3 cloves of garlic. They both are good, but I prefer yesterdays recipe more.

My daily intake of fruit and vegetable juice is now usually made up of the Mean Green Juice, except on days when I have more time to make a treat or something different. Here is what I am currently using each day produce wise:

1 large bunch of kale
4 Granny Smith apples
1 whole lemon
1 piece ginger, thumb sized
8 carrots
8 stalks celery
2 cucumbers
2 zucchini

There is allot of nutrition packed in all that produce, and it would be a hearty endeavor to consume all of that without juicing it! I also strive to drink about 1 gallon of water a day, especially when I work out in the gym.

Getting Back Ontrack...

The last few days I took some time off from the juice fast. I wasn't feeling really well and could tell my body was telling me to take a break, eat some solid food and to lay off the working out for a few days also.

I am back fasting and working out again. I drank my Mean Green Juice today and then this morning after work I went and did a kick butt upper body workout and then did a session in the sauna.

You could say I am fortunate, one of the perks of my job is a complete gymnasium that rivals a college gym. Weight rooms, basketball courts, swimming pool, handball courts and sauna in the staff locker room.

I recently tried mustard greens when there was no kale to be found at the market. I warn you, mustard greens are very strong and pungent. If you use them I recommend doing so sparingly. For me it was overpowering, and I couldn't drink all the juice I had made.

Support your local Farmers Market.

This time of year is perfect for getting out and supporting your local Farmers Market. These gatherings are a great source for fresh, locally grown and often organic fruits and vegetables.

I live North of Salt Lake City Utah where they have a fantastic Farmers Market. You will find these venues all around the country in large cities and small towns alike. Here is a link to the Salt Lake City Farmers Market:

Living Foods After The Fast

After your juice fast is over, you will be transitioning back to solid, whole foods. I highly recommend sprouts. These super live foods are inexpensive, easy to grow and absolutely packed with storehouses of nutrients!

Sprouts are widely recognized as being some of the most nutritious foods on the planet. And since sprouts are so easily digested and absorbed by your body, you can be confident that all those vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients are actually being absorbed, instead of passing through your body.
There are essentially three different categories of sprouts. Some are rich in vitamins and minerals. These are “greens.” Others have fewer vitamins and minerals but are filling and provide lots of protein. We call these the “high protein” sprouts. And lastly, there are those that have high fiber content and enzymes to help with digestion and assimilation. These are the “fiber/health” sprouts.

GREENS:

  • Alfalfa - Vitamins A, B, C, E, K, and minerals. These vitamins are essential for healthy reproduction, vision, immune function, healthy bones, and regulating bodily functions.
  • Radish - Potassium, Vitamin C. Potassium is essential for regulating healthy blood pressure, is involved in muscle contraction (movement), and nerve impulses (the brain telling the body what to do).
  • Broccoli - Vitamins A, C, antioxidants, and minerals. These nutrients help regulate brain function, aid in absorption and use of Vitamin E, and are involved in collagen production (cell building and replacement—your body’s ability to heal).
PROTEIN/VITAMINS:
  • Garbonzo - Protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. These beans are your go-to sprouts for emergency fresh food, fast. They even provide enough calories and nutrients for a few days of subsistence diet.
  • Green Lentils - Vitamin C, Protein, Iron, and other minerals. Lentils are another incredibly healthy sprout, and essential to good muscle and cardiovascular health.
  • Black Eyed Peas - Carbohydrates, fiber, and protein. These are another “meal in a handful” and provide essential calories and protein for a subsistence diet.
  • Mung Bean - Protein, Iron, Potassium, and Vitamin C. This sprout is integral in muscle health and retention.
FIBER/HEALTH:
  • Pea - Protein, vitamin C, and fiber.  Fiber helps the digestive system.  Protein and amino acids help the body grow, repair, and build new muscle.
  • Wheat -:
  •  Carbohydrates, protein, Vitamins B & E, and phosphorous. Phosphorous is a VITAL nutrient used in DNA synthesis—the building block of the body’s ability to grow, repair, and replace old cells.  Phosphorous is also needed in order for the body to use carbohydrates and regulate the pH of the blood.
  • Fenugreek - Iron & Phosphorous. In this one sprout are nutrients to support DNA replication, repair, and production of blood cells.

One Month Down...

Yesterday marked my 30th day on my Reboot Juice Feast. As I have mentioned previously, I have hit a plateau in my weight loss. After 30 days, my loss has leved out at 30 Lbs. But, the weight loss though a great benefit, it isn't the only reason I undertook this challenge. And I shouldn't complain, an average of 1 Lb a day is nothing to complain about!

On other Juice Fasting sites and blogs I frequent it is nice to see the kinship and community amongst people following the juicing lifestyle. It has also been rewarding to learn that I have have been an inspiration and encouragement to others. If you look and search out there you can find many websites, blogs etc dedicated to juice fasting and related health related issues.

One of the other juicing websites I found is called "The Juicing Tips Newsletter". You can find it at:

Review Time

I just wrote a review for the juicer that I purchased. Though there were more expensive juicers, after doing some research I found this juicer that had the power and features of many more expensive juicers, that in essence you are only paying for the brand name.

The one I bought was the Supentown CL-851 Professional Juice Extractor. I found it at Amazon.com. You can read my review at:

A Cyber-Published Juicer...

As you most likely have read by now, if you have been following this blog, you have noticed that I have been experimenting and coming up with new fruit and vegetable juice recipes. Now four of my recipes have be published on the Juicing-For-Health website! As I continue to juice and come up with new juices I will be here to share them with you.

Today is day 26 and I have lost approximately 35 Lbs !!! I feel so happy, physically well and truly liberated, like a Monarch Butterfly emerging anew to new life from the confines of it's cocoon.

Here is the links to my recipes:

http://www.juicing-for-health.com/orange-you-glad.html

http://www.juicing-for-health.com/mocky-mary.html

Getting Creative Tonight

I decided to make some different juices tonight. The first one I concocted I call the "Mocky Mary". It tastes like a Bloody Mary, minus the vodka... The recipe for this juice is:

3 Ripe Red Tomatoes.
4 Stalks Of Celery & Leaves
1 Green Bell Pepper
1/2 Of Whole Lemon
Several Dashes Of Worcestershire Sauce
Tobasco Sauce To Taste
Ground Celery Seed
Freshly Ground Black Pepper Corns

The second juice I made I call, "As Easy As Pumpkin Pie". It is very tasty, different and perfect for the season:

1 Small Pumpkin, 1 To 2 Lbs Seeded
2 Red Delicious Apples
4 Carrots
1/2 Of Whole Lemon
1" Piece Of Ginger
1 Heaping Tbsp Of Ground Cinnamon

I tried both of them and I must say with all humility, they are delicious! I am going to make some Mean Green Juice and call it good for the night after I clean up my juicer.

Two Dozen Of Them...

Today was day 24. I am still feeling fantastic. I even went out, mowed the lawn and visited with my neighbor today! This is something I haven't done in a long time, due to the shame of my weight, fatigue, sore knees, hips and back and last but definitely not least, depression.

I will share here that I have Bipolar Disorder. Since I have been on my juice fast, after the detoxification process had passed, my mental state has been more stable than I can remember in years.

The hypo-manic state doesn't bother me but it drives everyone around me absolutely nuts! Now my energy is through the roof, like being manic, with out all the insanity that goes along with it.

It is the depression I truly dread, it is a deep dark cavern which feels like there is no escape from. But for about three weeks now I have had no depression! This is a true breakthrough miracle in my life. I am so grateful that I have discovered juicing.

I came up with a new recipe today, I call it, "Beet Me With A Carrot". Something that is quite delicious and I am sure very nutritious. The recipe is:

2 Red Beets & Greens
2 Red Delicious Apples
4 Carrots
1/2 Whole Lemon
1" Piece Of Ginger

Just be forewarned, if you consume a beet based juice, don't be alarmed when you use the restroom and it looks as if you are about to drop dead from a severe gastrointestinal bleed. If I had seen this when I worked on the ambulance as an EMT I would have been extremely concern and been flying down the road lights and sirens to the closest emergency room! Fortunately I knew I had drank the beet juice, but it still was a little more than I had expected...

It's Been A Few Days

I haven't posted in a few days. Sunday I watched the Green Bay Packers game, and once again they were mega triumphant! Then I got sick, I was down for two days and was awful... Come to find out one of my coworkers had the same symptoms. I am all better now though.

I am trying a new juice tonight, it is based on red beet and beet greens. It is actually pretty good. I don't know all of the ingredients I used, but it is definitely tasty. They say to eat a rainbow of colors in fruits and vegetables. Well this juice definitely has the "Red" part of the rainbow going on.

My coworker shared a another good juicing website with me. It has allot of really useful educational  information, recipes and much more. It is called Juicing For Health. You can find it at:

Monday On A Saturday

Today was my "Monday". I took a couple of containers of juice with me to work and drank it and water through the day. My energy level was really sky high and I felt great!

My Wife purchased a Brita water filtration pitcher for me to take to work and keep in the refrigerator. I used to carry a gallon of water with me to and from work, this is much easier. I try and drink one gallon of water a day along with my juice.

Today it was the classic Mean Green Juice and Orange You Glad fruit juice combo. Then when I got home from work I was hungry again, so I made a veggie juice combo with some different vegetables I had on hand.

17 days into my 60 day Reboot Juice fast and I and feeling good. Tomorrow after work I am going to the gym, going to hit some cardio and then the steam sauna. I have been working on a whole body workout for myself and my coworkers if they choose to follow it.

My weekend is winding down

My days off from work are winding down. I have made some Mean Green Juice for tomorrow but I need some more juice to take to work with me. I am trying to decide on whether to make another vegetable juice of some type, a fruit combo or both...

Work, Lunch, Dinner Juice, Gym...

Day 15, this morning when I got off of work at 12:30 AM two co-workers and I went and worked out at the company gym on our campus. It was great to have some workout partners, I am dedicated I hope my co-workers will stick with it too.

I did a intense upper body work out and then spent 30 minutes in the steam sauna. I feel great this morning, but when the soreness hits I have no doubt I will be a hurting unit.

Lunch and dinner tonight were the classic Mean Green Juice and the Orange You Glad Juice, plus about a gallon of water through the day.

After using the professional scale in the gym I learned that my weights I had reported previously were wrong. I was actually 385 Lbs when I started the Juice Feast and am now down to 353 Lbs. But considering less than 2 years ago I was about 400 Lbs, and just like the DVD documentary says I was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead...

I am feeling great, have lost the 30+ Lbs and 5" off of my waist. I don't notice the weight loss so much myself in the mirror, others have though, but having pants with a 60" waist and were at one time tight, now loose to the point that I have have to cinch my belt up or my pants fall off is the true proof! I have gone from a 5XL T-Shirt and can now fit back into a 3XL T-Shirt. But, the best benefit is how I feel physically and mentally.

YouTube A good source for Juice Fast Reboot Experiences.

My of us have seen the DVD Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead, and or read the book. I did both myself, that is where I found my inspiration to begin my personal "Juice Feast".

I also like YouTube because you can see regular people like you and I and their experiences with the Reboot Juice Fast. Here is a link to several different videos made by individual Rebooters.

Great New Fruit Juice Combo

I came into a dozen or so fresh oranges tonight. So I did a little juicing experimenting. It came out to be a fruitful delight! It was the following combination of ingredients:

4 peeled oranges
1/2 whole lemon
1 piece of ginger 1" long
2 red delicious apples
4 carrots

The juice is very flavorful and could almost stand to be diluted with pure water a little bit. As with most all juices after a time in the refrigerator, the different juices began to separate.

That is why I keep an consume my juices in a BPA free Blender Bottle that my Wife found for me, on sale at our local grocery store. They are perfect for taking to work, we have 4 of them. I use 2 daily, they hold about 30 Oz when full.

A Dozen In The Bag, Fourty-Eight To Go.

Well I am amazed that here I am on day # 12 of my 60 Juice Feast. I still feel like I need to kick up my focus, dedication and intensity.

Not so much in the juicing, but to focus on my goals and to zero in on them and to eliminate time wasting, unproductive activities and to replace them with good, healthy activities and actions that will bring me closer to my desired outcomes.

My coworker who is going to begin juicing as soon as her juicer shows up, and her husband who also works at the same place we do are considering going to the company gym to exercise after work together as a team.

My coworker Anastasia is going to do a Juicing Reboot, her husband Allen isn't going to juice with us, but is considering hitting the gym to workout with us. All three of us need it!

I am the oldest and heaviest of the three of us, so it is the old fat guy leading the younger ones.

My Wife Karen has asked me to start making some juice for her to take to work with her. She is a busy Certified Pharmacy Technician who works in a busy pharmacy. Karen is on her feet for eight hours going non-stop. It is hard to squeeze in her lunch break let alone consuming something healthy! So she wants to incorporate juicing into her daily life.

My Grandson Dravyn was all over it when I asked him if he wanted some juice in his sippy cup. Starting him out at 13 months is a great way to help him begin a healthy lifestyle!

It is now time to go make today's juice and then get ready for work. Here's to health, life and love. Cheers!

Day Eleven, Time To Focus And Get Serious!

It is day 11, time to focus and get serious here! I didn't weigh myself today. It is time to make my juice for today and this evening at work. Some Mean Green Juice is definitely on the menu, but I may make a second unique juice just to mix things up. Doing good, feeling good! And to top it off, I have some coverts. My coworker just bought a juicer and is going on a Reboot Juice Feast and a couple of my facebook friends, who I grew up with but we live all over the globe now are getting on board too! Here's to life and health...

Breaking News Update !

Had to post this, couldn't resist! I weighed myself again a few minutes ago, and I had lost 5 Lbs more... So 30 Lbs in 10 days is awesome. Now I really need to kick it into gear for the next 50 days.

How Time Flies... Day 10

It has been ten days now since I started my Juice Feast. When I weighed myself this morning, I have lost 25 Lbs. So the last few days have been slow going, but at an average of 2 1/2 Lbs a day is still pretty good.

Here is something really neat, I let my Grandson Dravyn who is 13 months old try  some of the Mean Green Juice and he loved it! When he ran out of the little sip I gave him, he wanted more. So, I put some in a sippy cup for him and he really went to town on the stuff...

I also purchased a pair of New Balance athletic shoes to start walking and working out in. I was fortunate and found them on sale for $20 off. Here is a photo of them on my desk in my office at work. They feel great!

And of course it is October, that means Halloween! Here is what happens if you drink too much Mean Green Juice...

How Bad Do You Want It, Success ???

One Week, And Doing Great, small Loss last couple of days.

Today marks one week on the juice feast. I have lost a few Lbs over the last couple of days, but still 20 something Lbs lost in a week is nothing to be frustrated at. The side effects such as mental clarity and increased energy have been phenomenal. So I am going to step up my physical activity, to be honest I haven't exercised in the last week. Tomorrow I will be going to purchase a new pair of cross-trainer shoes. Most likely New Balance brand. Time to make a batch of juice for tonight, then I am going to spend some time with the Mrs. and turn in early.

Almost a week and so much better...

It is day 6 for my juice feast. Though when I weighed myself I am still at about 20 Lbs of weight loss, so no weight lost from yesterday to today but I feel so much better physically, mentally and psychologically! 20  Lbs weight loss in 6 days is nothing to complain about at all. Plus I have to admit, I haven't been exercising. This is something I need to commit to and add to my health regiment. It is time to go make some more juice for today and this evening at work.

Fat Sick And Nearly Dead

For anyone who may not have known, I got my inspiration to start my juice fast, or feast as I prefer to call it from the movie/documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead".  If you haven't seen it or read the companion book yet, I highly recommend them both. You can also find out more at:

http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/

As day 6 begins for me, I can finally say I feel great! And to top it off as of this morning I have lost 20 Lbs !!! I have a lot more to lose, but I am feeling better, more energetic, more centered and mentally clearer. I was able to wake up and get out of bed this morning with no trouble and feel good about it, I can't remember the last time I could do that it has been so long. I am very encouraged and happy today.

It's The Hump Day For This Juicer

It is my "Wednesday" at work and day 5 on my juice feast. I feel quite a bit better today. Still a little "spacey", with a bit of stomach intestinal irritation and headache.
I am going to make a couple batches of juice to take to work. I am going to make a batch of "Mean Green" and a batch of the carrot apple and ginger juice.

Carrot Apple Lemon and Ginger Juice

Decided to try something a little different. I made a really tasty juice and it was made of the following ingredients:

1 Large Red Apple.
4 Carrots
1/2 Lemon
1 Piece of Ginger about 1/2" long.

It is a very light, tasty and refreshing juice. Trying the different combinations is fun and has endless possibilities.

Much, Much Better !

Today was much better! I still did some unpleasant "detoxing" this morning and throughout the day. Now that has passed and I am feeling much better.

The headache, body aches and other unpleasant effects have waned, my energy and clarity is beginning to return. This is all good, I don't know how much more I could have taken. I had reached the point I was ready to throw in the towel and call it quits.

I am truly hoping it only gets better from here and that my health begins to improve and that the weight will melt away.

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Day Three Was Rough !

I am not going beat around the bush, today was rough! I had to go back to work and I was mas detoxing hard core, Headache, tired, hungry and feeling like garbage in general...

I came home, took a nap and then made some juice later. I will be glad when this period of detoxing is done. I am down over 10 Lbs since I started. I made a 30 Oz. container of vegetable juice for tomorrow and a new recipe, green apple, lemon and ginger.

Friday, September 23, 2011

Day Number Two Has Passed.

Well the end of the second day of my Juice Feast. Today was a bit more challenging. I gave up caffeine, nicotine and solid food all on one day. Today I was tired and did not feel great, I am definitely detoxing.

I did weigh somewhere around 5 Lbs less this morning! Tonight was challenging as the family had pizza for dinner, that was insanely tough! The smell was overpowering.

But, making a 30 oz serving of juice for dinner, that helped allot. I go back to work tomorrow morning, I will make a container tonight to bring to work tomorrow, then when I get home I will make another one for the evening.

So, another day draws to a close, I will be glad when the detoxing and first challenging days are over, I know this journey will not always be easy, but as happened to both Joe and Phil in the documentary and countless other Reebooters, I know it will be well worth it. And I will be here to record and share it.

Started My Reboot Juice Fast today !

Made my first batch of juice and slowly enjoying it now. My batch was as follows:

1 bunch of kale
4 stalks celery
1 zucchini
1 cucumber
... 1 Red Delicious apple
1 Fuji apple
2 carrots
1/2 lemon
1” piece of ginger root.

It is pretty good. I sip it and also have water I drink too. This batch of juice made about 30 oz. I drink about 1 gallon of water a day normally anyway on a daily basis.

My starting weight is 385 lbs. I gain about 10 lbs back last week living it up while waiting for my juicer. I went out with a bang last night. I had McDonald’s for dinner and then a six pack of Full Suspension Ale after work. It was like a going away party, even though I am not really a big McD’s fan. The micro-brew now, that’s a different story!

My goal is a 60 day Reboot, but I am taking it in 10 day segments. I will be here for support and to keep everyone informed. My goal is to get back down to a solid, muscular 200 lbs again. But considering a year ago I was about 398 lbs, I feel very good and optimistic even with the weight I have lost prior to starting this journey, but now I am looking for massive and quick changes that I saw happen to Joe, Phil and others in the documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead".
